Australian tenor and composer David Hobson is one of Australia’s best known operatic and recording artists.

He has sung many roles for Opera Australia including his award-winning performances as Rodolfo (La Boheme) and the title role in Orphee.  Other roles include Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Cosi fan tutte), Count Almaviva (The Barber of Saville), Nadir (Pearl Fishers), Frederic (The Pirates of Penzance), The Architect – in the world premiere of The Eighth Wonder, Eisenstein (Die Fledermaus), Aristaeus/Pluto (Orpheus in the Underworld) , the title role in Candide and, Danilo in Opera Queensland’s The Merry Widow.

David has crossed over in to the area of music theatre playing the lead role of Caractacus Potts in the national tour Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Buddy in the concert version of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies and Nick Arnstein in Funny Girl.

Special engagements include a performance in the Great Hall, Canberra for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and singing the national anthem at varied sporting events. He is also well known from his appearances on Carols by Candlelight. Much in demand as a solo concert performer David has toured nationally with Yvonne Kenny, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Lisa McCune and Rachael Beck.

David has recorded numerous albums with many reaching No 1 chart status and has won awards including Operatic Performer of the Year, the Sydney Critics Circle Award, The Age Performing Arts Award for Best Performer in Opera and an Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Award.

Most recently, David completed a 50-show sell-out tour around Australia, with close friend Marina Prior, for the second year running.
