
At the outset of his career Teddy Tahu Rhodes was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Award, and performed in the Young Songmakers Almanac Concert Series in London, in the Salt Lake City International Concert Series, and in recital in Japan. He represented New Zealand in the 1999 Cardiff Singer of the World competition.
Teddy has rapidly established an international career on both the opera stage and concert platform. He has performed with the opera companies of San Francisco, Austin, Washington, Philadelphia, Dallas, Cincinnati, Houston, Chicago and New York, Hamburg State Opera, Bavarian State Opera Munich, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera.
A regular guest with all the major Australasian orchestras, engagements include recitals at Sydney’s Utzon Room and in Washington DC, three national tours with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, BBC Proms, London Philharmonic, WASO, QSO, TSO, MSO, NZSO and Auckland Philharmonia. He debuted at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2009.
Recent seasons include Guglielmo – Così fan tutte and The Count – The Marriage of Figaro (Cincinnati, Opera Australia, Washington Opera), Lescaut – Manon Lescaut (Leipzig, OA), Escamillo– Carmen (Hamburg, Paris, Munich, Bilbao, Metropolitan Opera, OA), Stanley – A Streetcar Named Desire (Vienna, OA), Joe – Dead Man Walking, the title role in Don Giovanni (OA, West Australian Opera), Scarpia – Tosca (West Australian Opera, NZ Opera), Emile de Becque –South Pacific and The King– The King and I , both Australian tours for Opera Australia. New roles include Méphistophélès – Faust (Opera Australia, South Australian Opera and West Australian Opera), the title role in Sweeney Todd (Victorian State Opera, New Zealand Opera), title role in Don Giovanni (WA Opera) and William Tell and I Capuleti ei Montecchi (Victorian Opera).
In 2018 Teddy performed on the UK and Australian Bravo Cruises. In 2019 Teddy will join Victorian Opera to perform Titurel-Parsifal, Opera Australia to perform Lord Sidney-Il viaggio a Reims (Sydney and Melbourne), Enrico VIII-Anna Bolena (Sydney) and Mephistopheles-Faust (Melbourne) as well as an Australian tour- From Broadway to La Scala,

Accolades include an ARIA (Best Classical Record for The Voice) two Helpmann Awards/Best Male Operatic Performer for Dead Man Walking/State Opera of South Australia and in the Sydney performances presented by Andrew McManus/Alexander Productions) and the 2006 Limelight Award (Best Performance by a Soloist with an Orchestra for his performances with the ACO). Most recently he has been honoured with a Green Room Award for Best Male Artist in a Leading Role for his performance of Don Giovanni for Opera Australia plus a MO Award (Operatic Performer of the Year).
